What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are under the umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing. (BACP definition)

Counselling therapy is a conversation in confidence, which allows you the opportunity to talk and be heard in a safe environment. 

  • It can ease your pain and help you to cope with your problem
  • Allows you to talk to somebody who is professional and is not involved in your life.
  • It can provide understanding and support without being judgmental.

Therapy includes talking about life events, (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships and ways of thinking and pattern of behavior.

Integrative therapy is when several distinctive models of counselling and psychotherapy are used together to work at your problem and achieve your goal.

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that aims to help you manage your problem by changing how you think about yourself and others, how it affects your thoughts and your feelings.CBT is helpful in tackling problems such as anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress, eating disorders and addictions.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)is a psychological treatment method used for treating traumas arising from experiences such as war related, childhood abuse, sexual/physical or neglect, natural disasters, assaults, work or road traffic accidents , surgical traumas and anxiety. EMDR Therapy process involves eye movements from side to side, bilateral tapping or tones which helps your brain to reprocess the unconscious material. Solution Focused Brief therapy focuses on what is positive, possible solution and changeable for future.

Humanistic therapy also described as holistic therapy. It looks at a person as a whole. Encourages you to think about your feelings, take responsibilities for your thoughts and actions. It explores your creative instincts to resolve your personal issues.
